Vitruvius FabLab ISCTE-IUL is a space for knowledge sharing, manufacturing and innovation.

The XXI century digital revolution launched new challenges to creative areas and industry. Research, development and innovation are found on the close relation between creative people, the universities, companies and national industries, with a view to explore synergies that can allow richer development processes, as well as an application of solutions at different scales. The answers go through increasingly by defining interdisciplinary teams and the use of digital technologies for planning, generating, simulation and manufacturing.

The digital tools are part of everyday life of creators and, more and more, the innovation in creative processes is the result of computational logics. The advent of new software and tools has boosted new approaches to the process of thinking and doing. Thus, new logics in creative thinking are being applied, such as generative and parametric models, Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

It is in this context that VFABLAB-IUL emerged in 2012
 at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon. The main goal
is the exploratory development of innovative methods for creative and participative design and fabrication. The laboratory work aims for developing automated techniques for producing architectural models, exploring modular building systems, innovative applications of materials, interventions in the field of product design, urban equipment, computer graphics and multimedia in a transdisciplinary context of participative scope. VFABLAB-IUL is intended not only to internal research, but also enhances partnerships with international universities, industry and the local community. This laboratory supports several research projects in the fields of architecture, computing, arts, social sciences, management, psychology, design and multimedia. The digital fabrication laboratory supports innovation through the materialization of ideas.
